Below are some of the many notable and famous personalities who have a place on film within our archives.

Lynn Allison: Democrat Senator for Victoria, and outspoken advocate of women's rights, who's also done work to highlight the dangers of cluster bombs in dangerous, war-torn countries such as Lebanon.

 

 

Adam Bandt: now a member of parliament, has graced the camera many times on his quest to make the earth sustainable and the world a better place for all citizens, regardless of who they are or where they come from.

 


Greg Barber: Parliamentary Head of the Victorian Greens Party, and former mayor of Yarra City, renowned for his strong stance on environmental education and reform in the community.


Rachel Berger: Australian comedian, broadcaster, actor and writer, noted for her confronting and often politically-incorrect brand of humour and storytelling.

Dr Hans Blix: Former chief weapons inspector for the United Nations, and the first weapons inspector in Iraq. Perhaps better-known to modern audiences as Kim Jong-Il’s shark food in the 2004 hit US comedy Team America: World Police.

Debbie Brennan: Long-serving activist and member of the Victorian branch of Radical Women, a grassroots organisation devoted to promoting equality, fairness and justice for women around the world. As a result, Debbie is an outspoken supporter of abortion, equal opportunity, and women's rights. 

 

 

 

Bob Brown: Former Parliamentary leader of the Australian Greens, and first openly-gay member of the Australian Parliament (as well as first openly-gay leader of a political party). Is a noted and passionate supporter of both environmental and social rights issues.

 

Kim Bullimore: Prominent long time anti-racism campaigner and author, who also volunteers with the International Women’s Peace Service, the only all-women international peace team working on the ground in the Occupied Palestinian Territories.

 

Jim Cairns: Former Deputy Prime Minister under Gough Whitlam, prominent in the Labour movement during the 1970's, and best remembered as a leader of the movement against Australian involvement in the Vietnam War.

Michael Danby: MP and Representative for Melbourne Ports, long-time Labour member and supporter. He is a vocal critic of the Chinese Government's policies regarding human rights and trade, as well as being an ardent supporter of the arts.

 

Anton Enus: Award-winning reporter and journalist, advocate for gay rights and founding member of South Africa's gay and lesbian sports movement in the early 1980s. Currently gracing the airwaves as co-host of World News Australia on SBS.

 

 

Dennis Fisher: Port Melbourne Aboriginal personality Dennis Fisher is a voice for reconciliation. Also known as Den the Fish, he released Embracing Us All, an album of hard-hitting spoken word/poetry, backed by acoustic guitar, string trio, percussion and didge.

Lisa Fitzpatrick: Secretary of the Victorian branch of the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Federation, she has devoted nearly thirty years to improving the working conditions of nurses and midwives throughout Victoria and Australia.

 

 

Richard Frankland: Australian playwright, scriptwriter and musician. He is an Aboriginal Australian of Gunditjmara origin from Victoria. He has worked significantly for the Aboriginal Australian cause.

Dean Frenkel: Australian throat singer and musician, vocal expert, speech analyst, teacher and author of Evolution of Speech (2011). He is one of the world's leading harmonic overtone singers and features on many albums and award-winning documentaries. He set the Guinness world record for holding the longest sustained musical note with a human voice, from 2005 - 2009.


 

Rob Gell: Notable TV weather presenter, known for his appearances on both National Nine News and the Seven News. One of only three Australian weather presenters on free-to-air television with a degree in Meteorology.

 

Colleen Hartland: Member of the Australian Greens, highly active in highlighting issues in the environment both in Australia and abroad.

 


Matt Howard: former US military veteran, leading a platoon into Fallujah for the first sacking as a nervous, young, and blinded-by-faith 20 year old. Currently a member of the US Iraq Veterans Against War, Matt spent his hours of redemption travelling the world and using his knowledge to share his experiences, warn people of the dangers of blind faith in your government and their foreign policies, and helping others - veterans and survivors - recover.

 

Steven Jolly: Yarra City Councilman, Socialist Party member, and human rights advocate, Councillor Jolly has worked hard to ensure a fair go for all, positive and productive change in the community, and to educate others about human rights issues and struggles.

 

 

Dr. David Karoly: Renowned meteorologist and climate change scientist, whose work with the International Panel On Climate Change earned him a joint Nobel Prize (along with Al Gore and the rest of the IPCC working group).

 

 

Donna Mulhearn: former Australian political advisor, journalist, published author and original human shield in Iraq during the massacre of Fallujah. Donna is currently a writer and speaker on non-violence, activism and contemplative spirituality and works with the Edmund Rice Network in Sydney promoting engagement in social justice issues, particularly amongst young people.

Anne O'Rourke: Vice-president of Liberty Victoria and a lecturer in the Department of Business Law and Taxation, Monash University.


Bronwyn Pike: Former MP, one time Minister for Health and Minister for Education, and former Member for Melbourne. Ms Pike is one of only two (along with Lynne Kosky) with the longest-serving political record for female Ministers in the Victorian Parliament. She has a long history of advocating for social change, equality and the disadvantaged.

 

 

John Pilger: Renowned BAFTA-winning Australian-born investigative journalist and documentary film-maker, is one of only two to have twice won Britain's Journalist of the Year Award.

 

 

Rod Quantock: All round funny-man and former longtime Captain Snooze, the environmental and human rights advocate is still making hundreds of people wet their pants as he enthralls and entertains them with his dry wit and charm.

 

 

Scott Ritter: Former US CIA intelligence officer, and the first in Iraq to report on the lack of an alleged stockpile of weapons of mass destruction. Spends much of his time in the safety of the public eye on world speaking tours.

Alischa Ross: Founder and CEO of YEAH (Youth Empowerment Against HIV/AIDs), a youth-inspired initiative dedicated to engaging & empowering young Australians to understand and respond to the local and global issues of HIV/AIDS.

 

Peter Rowsthorn: Renowned Australian actor, comedian, writer and MC. Most popularly known as a former member of The Comedy Company, and as the bumbling Brett on the hit series Kath & Kim.

 

 

Denise Scott: Australian stand-up comedian, actor and radio personality, known for her appearances on The Big Gig, Tonight Live with Steve Vizard, and currently, the drama series Winners and Losers.

 

 

Jeff Sparrow: Australian left-wing writer, editor and former socialist activist based in Melbourne, Victoria. He is the co-author of Radical Melbourne: A Secret History, Radical Melbourne: The Enemy Within (both with sister Jill Sparrow), Communism: A Love Story and Killing: Misadventures in Violence.
 

David Spratt: Climate change researcher and author, co-writer of the book Climate Code Red: The Case For Emergency Action, shortlisted for the 2009 Victorian Premier’s Literary Awards.

Michaela Stubbs: Dedicated activist and longtime member of Friends of the Earth. An ardent campaigner against the use of nuclear power, Michaela has headed up many actions and protests, and co-authored the Inquiry Into The Strategic Importance Of Australia's Uranium Resources with Dr. Jim Green.

 

Magda Szubanski: Renowned comedian, actor, TV presenter and author, known for her work in The D-Generation, Fast Forward, Full Frontal, Kath & Kim, Babe, and Happy Feet. She is a noted advocate of gay and lesbian rights.

Chope Paljor Tsering: Former member of the cabinet of the Central Tibetan Administration. He is the longest serving representative of the Dalai Lama, having served as the representative to Nepal, Eastern Europe, Australasia and East Asia over twenty one years from 1986 until 2007.

 

Tjimba and the Yung Warriors: Having released their debut CD at Paddy’s Comrades Bar to a huge audience in 2007, they have played at numerous music festivals and conferences since, including the Big Day Out, and have supported US rapper 50 Cent. Nominated for numerous awards and having had national airtime, Tjimba and the Yung Warriors are still going strong, wowing audiences with their heartfelt lyrics and upbeat rap melodies.

 

Uncle Larry Walsh: Local Aboriginal storyteller and Elder. He particularly loves working with the younger generation as as he sees them as the torchbearers of the future.
