Melbourne Media Archive are the official custodians of the St Kilda Access SKA TV archive, a collection of audio visual TV programs and other material-including posters, flyers, magazines, books, newspapers, organizational documents, program and project planning documents, as well as the core collection of footage of the people, shot by the people, for the people-The People’s history, recorded onto Umatic, Betacam, VHS and MiniDv tapes from 1988 to 2010.

As this footage was shot by numerous volunteers, from an organic, grassroots perspective, it is a rich resource of information pertaining to not only the history of Melbourne’s communities, but also to the global community as a whole and as such, this is the perspective that you would NOT have seen on mainstream commercial news broadcasts or programs and much of it has never been seen before on any network.

We are a volunteer run organisation and have the knowledge, experience and facilities to create volunteer and training opportunities for those who would like to donate their time to preserve this rich historical infomation and for those that would just like to learn about the 'old' and the 'new' by gaining new knowledge and skills.

OUR FUTURE-YOUR FUTURE

Melbourne Media Archive are also an audio visual digitisation agency, specializing in media management, digitization and accessability of analogue tape formats, from Umatic, Betacam, VHS and ‘newer’ forms of media.

As one of the only organisations in Australia that still retain the whole gammut of analogue tapes machines, these combined with the 21st century digital technology will soon enable us to offer our digitisation and online management services to non-profit organisations, communities and anyone who wants to preserve their own history.

Whether you want to preserve and digitise you own private family history, or the history of your organisation, we will have the facilities and the technology to help you achieve a permanent mark on this world by enabling your family, friends and future colleagues access to the most vital information for the future generations to value and learn from.
